Special Message...
In the wake of the recent devastating floods and the tragic loss of life in the Hill Country, I want to share clear information about the safety measures in place for campers at Riverbend.
-
Riverbend is not considered at risk of flooding. If you are familiar with Riverbend, you know that one of the property's highlights is the amazing views overlooking the neighboring valley. The camp is situated along the Brazos River, elevated over 140 ft above the river. The recorded modern historic crest of the river is 35ft. Even at that level, our guest facilities would still be over 100 ft above the river. While we've had significant rainfall, it would take a dramatic and unlikely rise in river levels to pose a risk to our facilities. As an added precaution, we've temporarily closed access to the riverside hiking trails.

Emergency services are close and accessible. We have a great relationship with our local EMS, Sheriff’s office, and fire department. We have an on-site medical facility with licensed and experienced medical personnel.
-
We train and prepare for emergencies. In addition to staff training, emergency protocols are posted in every cabin meeting room.
-
Safety of Campers is paramount at Riverbend. While no place is immune to natural disasters, the priority of every camp leader is the care and well-being of those entrusted to us.
-
We are licensed by the State of Texas and undergo detailed inspections.
-
While no place is completely exempt from natural disaster, few environments devote as much effort and resources to child and teen safety as licensed youth camps. Significant camper harm is so rare that when it does occur, it makes the news, which is why the tragedy over the weekend is nearly unimaginable.

For almost 150 years, parents have sent their kids to camp not just for fun, though that’s certainly part of it. Each year, around 20 million young people attend camps where they build character, grow in independence, and connect with mentors and lifelong friends. Riverbend is a place of refuge where people experience Christ, and over 100 have made professions of Faith already this summer.
We continue to pray for those affected by the floods and remain committed to the highest standards of care for every person entrusted to us.
